Get Ready to Sink Your Teeth into the Ultimate Sandwich Showdown!

Hey there, fellow food lover! If you’re like me, you’re not just grabbing any old sandwich; you’re on the hunt for the ultimate sub. Why settle for mediocre when you can have a mouthwatering masterpiece?

I’ve got high standards when it comes to food, and you should too. Let’s dive into my no-holds-barred review of some of the biggest names in the sub game, so you can taste the best without wasting your cash on the rest.

The Criteria: What Makes a Sub Sandwich Stand Out?

When I’m judging a sub, I’m looking for a few key elements:

    1. The Bread: It has to be tasty without overpowering the fillings, and sturdy enough to hold everything together.
    2. The Meat: It should taste like what it claims to be. Turkey should taste like turkey, not some mystery meat.
    3. The Toppings: Freshness is key. A great sub should be loaded with crisp veggies, tangy pickles, and zesty spreads.

Now, let’s get to the meat of the matter—my review of four popular sub shops.

    Jersey Mike’s

Jersey Mike’s has a reputation for packing their subs with fresh, quality ingredients. I went for the Club on wheat, loaded with turkey, ham, bacon, and all the veggie fixings. The bread was solid, and the cherry pepper relish added a delightful zing. However, the turkey and ham were overshadowed by the bacon. Don’t get me wrong, I love bacon, but I want to taste all the meats in my club. At over $11, it’s pricey, but you do get a hefty sandwich. Jersey Mike’s delivers on size, but the flavor balance could use some tweaking.

    Subway

I walked into my local Subway and ordered my usual: turkey, provolone, and a garden’s worth of veggies. Everything looked promising, but one bite in, my hopes crumbled like their flavorless bread. The turkey was nearly invisible in both presence and taste, and the cheese was MIA. The veggies saved it from being a total loss, but overall, this sandwich was a dud. Sorry, Subway—you’ve lost your magic.

    Jimmy John’s

Jimmy John’s is known for speed, and my Turkey Tom was no exception. Fresh French bread, turkey, crunchy lettuce, and a kick of Jimmy Peppers. It looked fantastic and smelled even better. But here’s where it faltered: the meat tasted like it came from a grocery store deli counter, not a gourmet sub shop. For over $11, I expected more. The bread was the hero here—soft, sturdy, and flavorful. But the mediocre meat made this sandwich a one-and-done for me.

    Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop

The new in town and already stealing the spotlight—Capriotti’s blew me away. The homemade turkey sub was a game-changer. Unlike the usual thin slices of Turkey, Capriotti’s slow-roasts and hand-shreds their turkey. The result? A juicy, flavorful bite reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner. The roll was perfect—substantial yet soft. Topped with provolone, fresh veggies, and sweet peppers, every bite was a symphony of flavors. Capriotti’s nailed it on all fronts. For just over $11, it’s worth every penny. I’ll be back, and I suggest you do the same.

    Final Thoughts

When it comes to subs, don’t settle for less. Whether you’re a fan of the classics or looking for something new, my top pick is clear: Capriotti’s, they understand that great ingredients make a great sandwich. So next time you’re craving a sub, skip the so-so and go for the wow. Happy eating!
